We all need to eat, but sometimes we use food to solve another problem. So what problem are you medicating with food? Is it loneliness, lack of control, anxiety, guilt, shame, fear or something else?
I’ve yo yo dieted so often, I’ve probably lost the weight of 3 women, and gained them back again. Each time I lost weight, at my lowest I could almost feel the weight going on again. My body felt alien. Id stop a diet and immediately gained the weight back, plus a few extra pounds for luck. Haha! I wanted and needed to understand what drove me to keep putting the weight back on, why I felt safer when I was bigger but hated being big at the same time.
About 20 years ago I started a journey. I knew I needed some answers before I could move on with my life, so I could feel more satisfied and fulfilled in my life and not expect food to do that for me. I studied Psychology CBT NLP, Life coaching, and numerous other subjects to uncover why I felt I wasn’t enough.
I believe I have finally uncovered the solution. I had to understand and release past hurt and trauma. But the biggest key was to finally believe in my worth, learning to love myself regardless of my size. Learning to appreciate the best parts of me and knowing I have a voice that has something worthy to say. I had to learn to be me and discover what being me is all about, including eating the right foods and taking the right kind of exercise for me. The great thing, I’ve stopped counting. I don’t have to weight or measure food, I don’t need to know how many calories are in food. I understand that my body has its own weight set point, the weight at which my body knows I’m safe. Too low, and it will push me to gain weight again to protect me from my old trauma. Release the trauma and you will feel safe at that lower weight and will not need to gain the weight back.
This is a journey, that takes patients, love, appreciation, gratitude and emotional understanding. This is the final journey to your ideal weight.
